My blog

Year: 2019

The original project

After finishing my portfolio, I wanted to continue doing things with Gatsby. That's when I had the idea to create a blog site. I first thought about using Netlify CMS but I decided to switch to Forestry.io.

At first, I wasn't really planning to start blogging but after finishing the project and creating a few test posts, I thought I might just try to start writing things down. I used to love writing as I was growing up, I thought it might be fun to see if I still like it or not.

The remake 2021

In 2021 I switched from Forestry.io backend to Drupal 9. The Forestry backend was working fine, but just wasn't really feeling it. I really prefer using Drupal as a CMS. The site also got a new look in the process.

The remake 2022

In 2022 I decided to switch from Gatsby to Next.js. I kept the site look but switched from basic SCSS to Tailwind. The hosting for the project also changed. The backend hosting is still done by my fiancé on Kubernetes but the frontend is now hosted on Netlify. I had tested Netlify hosting when I first started building my portfolio and I can say that they've only gotten better. During the renewal, I also combined my blog and portfolio Drupal instances into a new Drupal instance. I'm planning on building something on the Drupal side as well for these, but that will be a separate project.

The remake 2023

In late 2023 I decided to switch the frontend from Next.js to Astro. And since Vercel is Astro's official hosting partner, I decided to switch the hosting of the frontend to Vercel.
