My portfolio

Year: 2019

The original project

This portfolio actually consists of two different projects. Earlier in the summer, I attended my first tech meetup (yay!) at Wunder. They talked about Gatsby and it caught my attention. When they also mentioned working with both Drupal and Gatsby, I knew I had to try it myself. The perfect opportunity to try out Gatsby while still using a data source I'm familiar with. Then I thought that since I'm already using Drupal as a data source, why not use it as a site as well. And that's how I ended up with two co-existing portfolio sites. To make things a bit more interesting than having two identical sites, I created unique content for both sites and did the structure a bit differently for each one.

With the Drupal version, I wanted to try out the currently experimental Media Library. I also wanted to give the Layout Builder a test run, even though this site is quite simple.

With the Gatsby version, I wanted to play with a theme toggle and just get some experience with Gatsby.

The sites are hosted on Kubernetes. I had nothing to do with the hosting, all props to my fiancé.

The remake 2021

In 2021 I renewed the look of both sites and made some changes to the Gatsby version's functionality. I also wanted all of my sites to be easily recognizable as mine, so they now have a more unified look.

The remake 2022

In 2022 I decided to switch from Gatsby to Next.js. I kept the site look but switched from basic SCSS to Tailwind. The hosting for the project also changed. The backend hosting is still done by my fiancé on Kubernetes but the frontend is now hosted on Netlify. I had tested Netlify hosting when I first started building my portfolio and I can say that they've only gotten better. During the renewal, I also combined my blog and portfolio Drupal instances into a new Drupal instance. I'm planning on building something on the Drupal side as well for these, but that will be a separate project.
